CHAP. 154.

CHAP. CLV.

An Act to alter and change the Name of George Charles Townes, to that of
George Charles Thompson.

WHEREAS George Charles Townes, of the city of Baltimore,
has petitioned this general assembly that an act may pass to
change his name to that of George Charles Thompson, to enable
him to become the adopted child and heir at law of Thomas
Thompson of the city of Baltimore, sea captain; and it being
reasonable that the prayer of the said petition shall be granted;

Therefore,

Passed Feb. 13, 1821.

Preamble.

1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
it shall and may be lawful for the said George Charles Townes
to take upon himself the name and surname of George Charles
Thompson, instead of his present name, and also for the descen-
dants of the said George Charles Townes to take upon them-
selves the surname of Thompson, and the name of the said
George Charles Townes shall be and is hereby changed and al-
tered into the name of George Charles Thompson, and the said
George Charles Thompson, and the heirs of his body, shall at all
times be called by, and hold and use the surname of Thompson
only.

Name changed.

2. And be it enacted, That all securities, promises, contracts,
assurances, deeds, and lawful acts, heretofore made, or hereafter
to be made, by or to the said George C. Townes, by the name of
Thompson, shall be of the same force and effect, and be equally
valid to all intents and purposes, as if the name and surname of
George C. Thompson had been the true and proper name and
surname of the said Townes from his birth, any law or custom
to the contrary notwithstanding.

Contracts, &c. to
be valid, &c.

CHAP. CLVI.

An Act to change the Names of James Woodard and Harriet Woodard, of
Anne Arundel County, to that of James Clagett and Harriet Clagett.

1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the
names of James Woodard and Harriet Woodard, of Anne-Arun-
del county, be and hereby are changed and altered unto the names
of James Clagett and Harriet Clagett, and it shall and may be
lawful for the said James Woodard and Harriet Woodard, at all
times hereafter, to be called and known by, and hold and use, the
names of James Clagett and Harriet Clagett, and by the said
names to sue and be sued in any court of law or equity, and it
shall and may be lawful for the issue of the said James Woodard
to take upon themselves, and each of them, the surname, of Cla-
gett instead of the surname Woodard, and the surnames of the
said James Woodard and Harriet Woodard are hereby changed
and altered to the surnames of Clagett.

Passed Feb. 13, 1821.

Name changed.

2. And be it enacted, That all securities, promises, contracts,
