MUNICIPAL CHARTERS

directed by the Town Manager] in accordance with the
budget AND UNDER SUPERVISION OF THE COMMISSIONERS; he
shall submit a detailed monthly and annual report of all
monies received, [and disbursed to said Town Manager.]

11.   [Superintendent] DIRECTOR of Public Works;
duties.

The [Superintendent] DIRECTOR of Public Works, under
the direction of the [Town Manager] COMMISSIONERS, shall
have direct charge of all public works of the Town; he
shall be custodian of the general property of the Town,
including the streets, roads, alleys, water and sewerage
system and the sewerage disposal plant, buildings,
offices, machinery, tools, motor equipment, etc. and
shall be responsible for its care, use and upkeep; he
shall have charge and direction of the working forces of
the Town and shall oversee any work performed under
contract; he shall attend the meetings of the
Commissioners when directed and shall advise them as to
the condition of the public works as above defined; he
shall incur no expenditure of public funds except as
authorized by the [Town Manager] COMMISSIONERS.

12.  Police; duties.

All police officers including the Chief of Police
shall act under the immediate direction of the [Town
Manager] COMMISSIONERS, and shall perform such duties as
[he] THEY may direct; [he] THEY shall preserve the peace;
prevent disorderly or irregular meetings and shall
enforce all ordinances of the Town; [he] THEY shall serve
such notices and process required by this Charter or by
any ordinance passed by virtue thereof, as directed.

16. Tenure of officers; retirement.

The term of the officers appointed by the
Commissioners for the Town manager as respectively]
provided for in this Charter shall begin as of the day of
the respective appointments and such offices shall be
held by the appointees until removal from office,
resignation or death and the Commissioners [or Town
Manager] may fill any vacancy so caused. The
Commissioners of Aberdeen may in their sole discretion
retire any employee of the Town of Aberdeen reaching the
age of sixty—five years and having been in continuous
employment of the Town for twenty years immediately prior
thereto and pay such employee a monthly pension of not
more than two hundred dollars ($200.00) for the remaining
term of his life, and to provide for the payment of such
pension in the annual tax levy.
