mentioned and expressed:  viz:  one negro man aged about twenty years named Algernon Stanley Junr
one grey mare, one Bay Horse, one black Horse, one yoke of Steers, two Cows, one yearling, one half of
the crop of wheat now growing, fifteen hundred pounds of Bacon, twenty five barrels of Corn, ten head
of Sheep, fifteen head of hogs, four beds, bedsteads, and furniture, and all of rest of the house hold
and kitchen furniture:  To Have and To Hold, all and singular the goods chattels, furniture and
house hold Stuff aforesaid unto the said Dewit Clinton Handley his executors, administrators and
assigns, to his and their own use and behoof.  Provided always, and it is declared to be the true intent
and meaning of these presents that if the Said Thomas James Lecompte do, and shall well and truly
pay or cause to be paid unto the several and divers creditors the several and respective amounts, and debts,
with the legal interest, and costs if any may thereon accrue, so as to relieve and keep harmless the aforesaid
Dewit Clinton Handley from all responsibility and risk because of his suretyship, then and
in such case these presents and every matter and thing herein contained, shall cease, determine and be
utterly void to all intents and purposes, any thing therein contained to the Contrary notwithstanding.
            In testimony whereof the aforesaid Thomas James Lecompte has hereunto set his hand and
seal the day and year first within and above written

Dorchester County State of Maryland Sc:               On this twenty third day of August anno Domini
eighteen hundred and fifty two before the Subscriber a Justice of the peace in and for the County and
State aforesaid, personally appeared Thomas James Lecompte and acknowledges the above and aforegoing
deed of indenture or instrument of writing to be his act and deed according to the true intent and meaning
thereof, and the act of Assembly is Such Case made and provided,    Then also at the same time appeared
Dewit Clinton Handley the mortgagee, or grantee, who being duly sworn on the Holy Evangely of Almighty
God, deposeth and sayeth that the Consideration set forth in this mortgage bill of Sale is true and bona
fide, as therein set forth                        Acknowledged and sworn to before me the Subscriber on the day
and year first above written                  Acknowledged and sworn to before

I hereby release the aforegoing Mortgage, Witness my hand and seal, this 27th day of Augt A. D. 1879      George A. Z. Smith J. P.

Solomon Martain Jackson negro      Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that the following Manumission
    Exd      from                             was received and recorded on the 2d day of September 1852 to wit:
    Sarah Medford                                       To all whom it may concern be it known that I
Sarah Medford of Dorchester County in the State of Maryland for divers good Causes and Considerations
me thereunto moving have released from Slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents
do hereby release from Slavery liberate manumit and set free my negro boy named Solomon Martain
Jackson when he shall arrive to the age of twenty one years being of the age of seven years the Seventy
third day of Decr. last and bids fair to be able to gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance and
him the said negro boy named Solomon Martin Jackson I do declare to be free manumitted and
discharged from all manner of service or servitude to me my executors or administrators forever after
he the said Solomon Martain Jackson shall arrive to the age of Twenty one years which will
take place on the twenty third day of Decr one Thousand Eight hundred and sixty five
          In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this Thirty first day
of August in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred and fifty Two               her
