State of Maryland
Caroline County to wit whereas on the 11.th day of March
in the year of our lord Eighteen hundred Thomas Hughlett
of Caroline County by a Deed of manumission duly executed
acknowledged and recorded amongst the records of Caroline
County did manumit and set free a negro boy named Moses to
be free when and after he should arrive at the age of twenty five
years and whereas the said negro man named moses hath made
application to me for a certificate of his freedom agreeably to
the provisions of the act of assembly in such case made and
provided and being satisfied by the oath of Jenifer S Taylor of
Caroline County that the said negro man to whom this certificate
is delivered is the person mentioned in the said manumission
I do therefore grant his application and hereby certify from the
best information I have gained that he is about thirty year of age
has a Dark complexion was raised in Caroline County and is five
feet seven Inches high or thereabout has a large lump on
the back of his right hand rather stout and well made
and no other notable marks I have discovered
                      In Testimony whereof I have hereto set
                      my hand and affixed the public seal of my office
(seal)              this ninth day of June in the year Eighteen hundred
                      and fifteen
