on therein, and as far as practicable keep the said work up to date;
and he shall also perform such other services (when his time is not
fully occupied in indexing and cataloguing) as shall be required of
him by the said library committee.

16. The governor, by and with the advice and consent of the
senate, is authorized and empowered to appoint a person as custodian
of works of references, who shall hold office for a period of two years
or until the appointment of a successor, who shall receive an annual
salary of seven hundred and twenty dollars, payable monthly in instal-
ments by warrant of the comptroller upon the treasurer. It shall be
the duty of the custodian of works of references to attend daily at
the library during such hours as may be fixed by the library committee,
and shall perform such duties as may be required by said libiary com-
mittee and the state librarian.*
