Resolved by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the Members of the General As-
sembly of Maryland have heard with the
profoundest regret of the death of General W.
S. Hancock, a Major-General in the United
States Army; that the life and character of
General Hancock present to the American

people an example worthy of imitation as a
model of the American Soldier-Statesman ;
this General Assembly expresses to the be-
reaved family of the deceased General, their
sincerest sympathy in this their hour of be-
reavement, and directs that copies of this Joint
Resolution, certified by his Excellency, the
Governor of Maryland, under the Great Seal
of Maryland, be transmitted by the Secretary
of State to the President of the United States,
and also to the family of the deceased.
