1440 JOINT RESOLUTIONS.
A Joint Resolution of the General Assembly of Maryland pro-
viding for a commission for the celebration of the two hun-
dredth anniversary of the birth of George Washington, and
prescribing their powers and duties.
WHEREAS, A Joint Resolution has been passed by the Con-
gress of the United States providing for a National Commis-
sion to prepare and carry oat comprehensive plans for the
celebration of the two hundredth anniversary of the birth of
George Washington, which will occur on February 22, 1932,
and the commemoration of which will continue until Thanks-
giving Day, 1932; and
WHEREAS, The several states of the Union are co-operating
in this anniversary and it is desirable that plans be formulated
for the commemoration of the same in Maryland.
Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That a
commission is hereby created to be known as the Maryland
George Washington Bi-Centennial Commission. Said com-
mission shall consist of fifteen members, to be appointed by
the Governor, and at least one member shall be selected, re-
spectively, from the Sons of the American Revolution, the Sons
of the Revolution, the Daughters of the American Revolution,
the Daughters of the Revolution, the Children of the American
Revolution and the Maryland Historical Society. It shall be
the duty of said commission to act for the State in all matters
connected with the George Washington Bi-Centennial celebra-
tion and to co-operate with the National Commission, with
State Commissions, with the Civil National Committee estab-
lished by the Sulgrave Institution and with any other patriotic
and civic bodies engaged in commemorating the said event.
Vacancies in the said commission shall be filled by the Gov-
ernor.
Resolved, That this Joint Resolution shall supersede any
previous action of the General Assembly of Maryland on the
subject of the bi-centennial celebration of the birth of George
Washington.
