Mr. Vickers submitted the following:
WHEREAS, since the last session of the General Assembly
of Maryland, it has pleased Almighty God, in his Provi-
dence, to call from labor to reward one of the members of
this body, whose quiet and unobtrusive disposition, consci-
entious performance of his duties, and discreet participation
in the proceedings of the Senate, his bland and courteous
deportment won and secured the esteem and confidence
of his brother Senators—it is, therefore, meet that we should
accept the melancholy opportunity now offered to testify our
appreciation of his character and the sense of our loss;
Resolved, therefore, by the Senate, of Maryland, That we
have learned with deep regret of the demise of the late Hon.
Daniel Jones; and as a mark of the high respect entertained
for the deceased, his official worth and private virtue, we
wear the usual badge of mourning for the space of
thirty days.
