70 VOTES AND PROCEEDINGS, NOVEMBER SESSION, 1807.

ORDERED, That for the remainder of the session no member shall have leave of absence, unless the same be
asked for in person; and that, the committee of claims strike every member off the journal of accounts the day
after he leaves the city.

And the question put, That the house agree to the first part thereof as far as the word "person" Resolved
in the affirmative.

The question was then put, That the house agree to the residue of the said order? Determined in the negative.

The house proceeded to the second reading of the bill to incorporate a fire insurance company, in the city of

Baltimore; on progression in reading the same, the question was put, That the following clause be stricken out?

viz. " And be it enacted, that it shall and may. be lawful for the stockholders in the said institution, at a general
meeting to be held for that purpose, to increase the capital stock to such amount as they shall, deem expedient,
consistent with their interest and the benefit resulting to society; provided always, that such increase, together
with the original capital, shall not, in the whole, exceed the sum of one million at dollars. " Resolved in the
affirmative.

The bill being read throughout, the question was put, Shall the said bill pass? Resolved in the affirmative.

The report on the petition of George P. Hinckle was read the second time, and the resolution therein con-
tained assented to.

The bill to quiet the possessions and fix the lines of the lots, of ground, fronting on the west side of Philpot-
street, between Will-street and Thames street, in the city of Baltimore, was read the second time and passed.

On the second reading of the bill relative to writs of capias ad satisfaciendum, the question was. put, That
the same be recommitted for amendment? Resolved in the affirmative.

ORDERED, That the committee which prepared and, brought in said bill be discharged.

ORDERED, That Mr, T. Dorsey, Mr. Blakistone and Mr. Sudler, be a. committee to amend the same.

A petition from John Woolford, and ethers, of Dorchester county, praying that part of the real estate of
Levin Woolford, deceased, may be sold, was. preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Frazier, Mr. Dennis and Mr,
Henry, to consider and report thereon.

A petition from Richard Trimble, of Baltimore, comity, praying the will of Mary Davidson may be confirm?

ed, was preferred, read, and referred, to Mr. Steuart, Mr. T. Dorsey and Mr. Little to consider and report

thereon.

A petition from Daniel Forney, of Baltimore county, praying a compensation for the Reister's-town turnpike
Toad running through his land, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr, Little, Mr, M, Brown. and Mr, T, Dor-,
sey, to consider and report thereon.

Mr. Henry, from the committee delivers to the speaker the following report:

TH. E committee to whom was referred the petitions of Denwood Hicks and William Ennalls, of Dorchester
county, beg leave to report, that they have taken the same under their consideration, and are of opinion the se-
veral prayers thereof are reasonable, and ought to be granted; they therefore submit the following resolution:

RESOLVED, That all proceedings against Denwood Hicks and William Ennalls, and their securities, on judge-
ments obtained by this state against them, for the purchase money due on the Choptank Indian lands, be and
the same are hereby suspended. and stayed until the first day of January, 18, 10,

By order, WINCHESTER, clk.
Which was read the first and second time by especial order and the resolution therein contained assented to.

A petition from John C. Bond, late sheriff of Harford county, praying to be indulged, in the payment of a
balance due by him to the state, and released from the additional nine per cent, due thereon, was preferred,
read, and referred to Mr, Forwood, Mr. Streett and Mr. Davis, to consider and report thereon.

The further supplement to an act, entitled, An act to incorporate an insurance company in Baltimore-town,
was read the second time and passed.

On the second reading of the bill for the relief of Nathaniel E. Chew, Peter Miles and Robert Nesbit, of
Baltimore county, the question was put, That the house adjourn? Determined in the negative.

The question was then put, Shall the said bill pass? Resolved in the affirmative.

The house adjourns until to-morrow, morning 9 o'clock,.

TUESDAY, December 22, 1807.

THE house met. Present the same. members as on yesterday, except Mr. P; Spencer. The proceedings
of yesterday were read.

The bill for the relief of Nathaniel L. Chew, Peter Miles and Robert Nesbit, of Baltimore county, the fur-
ther supplement to an act, entitled, An act to incorporate an insurance company in Baltimore-town, the bill to
quiet the possessions and fix the lines of the lots of ground fronting on the west side of Philpot-street, between,
Will-street and Thames-street, in the city of Baltimore, the bill to incorporate a fire insurance company in the
city of Baltimore, the resolution in favour of George P; Hinckle, and the resolution in favour of Denwood
Hicks and William Ennalls, were sent to the senate by the clerk.

The bill for the relief of Mary Gwinn, of Frederick county, and the bill to lay out and open; a road in Fre-
derick county, were read the second time, passed, and sent to the senate by the clerk
