Ch. 11

LAWS OF MARYLAND

(1)  Investigate and collect information that relates
to the economic, fiscal, and social effects of AMATEUR AND
professional sports franchises in the State;

(2)  Encourage the [retention, expansion, and location
of] PROMOTION AND DEVELOPMENT OF AMATEUR AND professional sports
[franchises] in the State;

(3)  Advise the [Governor and the General Assembly]
SECRETARY on actions and incentives that may carry out the
Commission's duties; and

(4)  Submit an annual report of its activities to the
[Governor AND TO THE SECRETARY and, subject to § 2-1312 of the
State Government Article, the General Assembly] SECRETARY.

Subject to the evaluation and reestablishment provisions of
the Maryland Program Evaluation Act, this subtitle and all
regulations adopted under this subtitle shall terminate and be of
no effect after July 1, 1994.]

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That the Special
Advisory Commission on Professional Sports and the Economy is
abolished and the terms of the members of that Commission shall
end no later than the effective date of this Act.

SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That of the members
initially appointed to the Commission under this Act, 2
representatives of sports, 1 representative of government, 1
representative of the general public, 1 member of the House of
Delegates, and 1 member of the Senate shall be appointed to
3-year terms; 2 representatives of sports, 1 representative of
government, 2 representatives 1 representative of the general
public, 1 member of the Senate, and 1 member of the House of
Delegates shall be appointed to 2-year terms; and 2
representatives of sports, 1 representative of government, 1
representative of the general public, and 1 member of the Senate
2 representatives of sports, 2 representatives of the general
public, and 1 representative of government shall be appointed to
1-year terms. Thereafter, each member shall serve a 3-year term
as specified in this Act.

SECTION 4. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall
take effect July 1, 1988.
