CHAP. VI.

Paffed De-
cember 26.

A Supplement to an act, entitled, An act refpecting the con-
tinuance of civil fuits in the general and county courts.

Preamble.

WHEREAS by the aforefaid act, entitled, An act refpecting the con-
tinuance of civil fuits in the general and county courts, among other
things it is enacted, that in any cafe where commiffions fhall iffue for
taking the depofitions of witneffes refiding out of this ftate, the faid courts re-
fpectively fhall have a difcretionary power to continue fuch caufe, not exceeding
four courts after the ufual time of continuance limitted by law: And whereas
the prefent ftate of Europe and the Weft-India iflands prefent great obftacles to
the fafe and fpeedy tranfmiffion and return of fuch commiffions, as well as to
their execution; therefore,

continued in
certain cafes.

II. Be it enacted, by the General Affembly of Maryland, That in all cafes
where commiffions have been or fhall be hereafter iffued to obtain teftimony in
any caufe, which commiffion is or fhall be iffued to parts without the United
States of America, the caufe on which fuch commiffion is or fhall be iffued may
be continued for want of the return of fuch commiffion as long as the court,
under all circumftances, fhall in their difcretion think reafonable, any thing in
the aforefaid act to the contrary notwithftanding.

Duration.

III. This act to continue and remain in force for three years, and to the end
of the next feffion of the general affembly which fhall happen thereafter.

CHAP. VII.

Paffed De-

cember 26.

An ACT to confirm the proceedings of Caroline county levy
court, and to extend the time for the late collector of faid coun-
ty to complete his collections and receive the arrearages due
therein.

Preamble.

WHEREAS by an act of affembly paffed at November feffion, feventeen
hundred and ninety-three, entitled, An act to alter the time of hold-
ing the levy courts in the feveral counties therein mentioned, the
juftices of the peace for the county of Caroline were required to meet, at the
ufual place for holding the county court, on the third Monday of February
laft, for the purpofe of laying the levy of faid county, but the juftices aforefaid
not having met at the time appointed, but at a day fubfequent to the day limitted
in faid act, and faid the faid levy, after which the collector proceeded to the col-
lection thereof, in confequence of which the juftices of faid county are defirous
that an act fhould pafs confirming their proceedings, and the authority to collect
fuch levy by them impofed; therefore,

II. Be it enacted, by the General Afembly of Maryland, That all collections
already made by Peter Edmondfon, as collector of faid county, or any of his de-
puties, properly authoriied in virtue of the proceedings of the faid juftices, fhall
be, and they are hereby declared to be, as good and valid in law as if the faid
juftices had met and faid the levies on the day directed and required by the
aforefaid act, and that the proceedings of the faid juftices be and the fame are
hereby ratified and confirmed.

ceive, &c.

III. And be it enacted, That it fhall and may be lawful for the faid Peter Ed-
mondfon, collector of the county aforefaid, to receive and collect, by execution
or otherwife, at any time before the firft day of January, feventeen hundred and
ninety-fix, all arrearages of county taxes and public dues heretofore put into his
hands during the laft year of his collectorfhip.
