HARRY HUGHES, Governor

997

(2)  THE CENTRAL PART OF THIS STATE.

(3)  THE WESTERN PART OF THIS STATE.

(C) OTHER HOSPITALS.

THE SECRETARY ALSO SHALL OPERATE ANY OTHER CENTERS
ESTABLISHED BY LAW AND PLACED UNDER THE JURISDICTION OF THE
SECRETARY FOR THE CARE OF INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE CHRONIC

DISEASES.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This section formerly appeared as
Article 43, § 42(a)(3) and the first and second
sentences of § 598.

This section is revised to reflect that there are
3 existing chronic disease centers -- i.e.,
Deer's Head Center in Salisbury, Wicomico County,
Montebello Center in Baltimore City, and Western
Maryland Center in Hagerstown, Washington County.

The only other changes are in style.

The provisions of former Article 43, § 1B that
required the Department to provide inpatient and
outpatient facilities for chronically ill
individuals are deleted as unnecessary in light
of this section.

The provisions of former Article 43, § 1B that
required facilities for tubercular individuals
also are deleted as unnecessary since those
individuals now are treated in chronic disease
centers, rather than in separate facilities. See
revisor's note to Title 18, Subtitle 3 of this
article.

The third sentence of former Article 43, § 598,
which required costs of building, equipping, and
operating centers to be paid from appropriations
in the State budget or a bond bill, is deleted as
unnecessary in light of the law governing the
budgetary process of this State. See Article
III, § 32 of the State Constitution.

The fifth sentence of former Article 43, § 598,
which required the appointment of staff as
provided in the budget, is deleted as unnecessary
in light of § 2-103(d) of this article, which
generally enables the Secretary to employ staff.

Defined terms: "Center" § 19-501
"Secretary" § 1-101

19-503. RULES AND REGULATIONS.
